What’s the difference between CBD oil and hemp oil?

They are quite different, yet one in the same

The confusion comes from the fact that some CBD oils come from the hemp plant while others come from the marijuana plant. Many manufacturers label their CBD products as hemp oil, and a lot of CBD Oil uses hemp oil as the carrier base oil which is what creates some of the confusion.

Hemp Oil

Hemp oil is made from only the seed and is cold-pressed to obtain the oil. It can also be called Hemp Seed Oil. Hemp Oil can be found at most grocery stores in the cooking aisle.

  • Hemp oil is great for cooking because of it’s nutrients. It can provide a crispy and nutty taste to foods.
  • Hemp oil can be the base for different forms of plastic, instead of petroleum.
  • It is used in the production of paints that are more eco-friendly than petroleum-based paints.
  • It can be used as bio-diesel fuel, like other vegetable oils.
  • Hemp oil is used for making lotions, soaps and other cosmetics.

Hemp Oil is from a plant called Cannabis Sativa.  Hemp Extract is  Hemp oil is normally pressed from the seeds of the hemp plant, which means it does not contain the same amount of cannabinoids found in medicinal cannabis oils which are extracted from the whole plant. Hemp oil does have CBD,  normally less than 25 parts per million (ppm) compared to medicinal cannabis oil extracts that typically contain between 3% and 25% CBD.

Full Spectrum Hemp CBD oil 

This is made from the entire plant including leaf, seed and stem.  Most oils on the market selling as CBD oil are 97% or more Hemp Seed Oil, mct oil or vegetable glycerine and 3% Hemp Extract.

CBD oil can also be produced from the marijuana plant however it is only legal in certain states, as it contains over .3% THC.  The marijuana plant contains high levels of THC and low levels of CBD.
